McAllen needs artists for upcoming Chalk Art festival

McAllen will host a Chalk Art festival this spring on Main Street, and the city is searching for artists to participate in the event.

Auditions for The Man Who Came to Dinner to be held next week in McAllen

Several actors will be cast for the South Texas College Theatre’s production of “The Man Who Came to Dinner” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, and Wednesday, Dec. 7, at STC’s Cooper Center in McAllen.

The comedic play features 15 male actors and 9 female actors. All members of the community, 18 years and older, are welcome to try out for the various roles. Auditions will require actors to perform a cold reading from the script.

Call backs will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Cooper Center.

Auditions for Christian film to be held this week in McAllen

A local Christian feature film will be holding auditions for actors from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, and Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the McAllen Public Library.

The film follows a Christian mixed martial artist named Victor who works odd jobs to help pay the bills at home for his mother and sibling. He takes a job as a model for Heather, an artist who dying and full of anger and bitterness. Together, the two explore a relationship of love for each other and God.

Seven roles need to be filled. Filmmakers are looking for four to five female roles, including ages 10 to 12, 18 to 22, 30 to 35 and 45 to 50. Two to three male roles need to be filled, including ages 10 to 12, 45 to 50, and 30 to 50.

The independent film will be shot at the end of December through Thursday, Jan. 12, and it will be filmed mostly in the Valley.

Actors needed for Keep McAllen Beautiful campaign

Actors interested in television commercial work are needed to audition for a Keep McAllen Beautiful campaign by nonprofit Project Insight.

Send a resume and two photos with descriptions, including a head shot and a full body shot, to alexvidalinfo@gmail.com by Friday, Oct. 28. Casting will start at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, in McAllen. The location of the interview and casting has yet to be announced.

Four roles will be filled, including two females in their mid-20s or older, one male and one female, both 18 years old or older. All actors must be bilingual.

Audition for STC’s production of Rumors

Five women and five men are needed for South Texas College‘s production of Neil Simon’s play “Rumors.” Auditions will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, and Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the STC Cooper Center for Communication Arts’ Black Box Theatre in McAllen.

Actors will read from a script provided at the audition.

Music After Hours to hold auditions in November

Singer/songwriters and bands interested in performing in the Music After Hours outdoor concert series, presented by the McAllen Chamber of Commerce and Sun Fish Records, are encouraged to reserve an audition between the hours of 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the McAllen Creative Incubator.

Artists are required to have at least three original songs and they must bring their own musical equipment. A PA for vocals will be provided. While artists are not required to provide recordings of their music, it is appreciated.

Music After Hours is a family-friendly event which takes place every first Friday of the month from September through May at Archer Park in McAllen, and so the music must be appropriate for a public event.

Fright Fest film festival seeks RGV entries

The South Texas Film Alliance wants Valley filmmakers to scare up a horror film for Fright Fest, a local film festival.

There’s no entry fee for the fest, but all films must be no longer than 10 minutes and must include one scene of either a set of a wind chimes or a rocking chair. The deadline for submitting your entry is Friday, Oct. 21.

Films will be shown at a screening event at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at the South Texas College building D auditorium, and winners may receive cash prizes.

Valley writer’s host film contest

Writer’s in Literary Discussion will host an original film contest. The entries will screen 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at South Texas College Pecan Campus Building D Auditorium.

Prizes will be award by Barnes and Nobles, and winners will be determined by 50 percent audience vote and 50 percent judges.
