Comedian Nate Bargatze comes to STC next week

Comedian Nate Bargatze will be performing a series of free shows Wednesday, Nov. 2, and Thursday, Nov. 3, at South Texas College campuses in McAllen and Weslaco.

Bargatze has performed on the Country Music Television cable channel’s comedy show a few times, made the troops in Iraq laugh, entertained on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and hosted his own “Comedy Central Presents” special.

The Student Life department of STC will be sponsoring several shows which will be open and free to the public.

Bargatze will perform at STC’s Technology Campus West Building Atrium at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2,  and at 7 p.m. at STC’s Mid-Valley Campus Building G Lecture Hall in Weslaco.

He will also perform at 12 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at STC’s Starr County Campus Building E Auditorium and finally at 7 p.m. that evening at the college’s Pecan Campus Cafeteria.

Comedian Peter Wolf will tickle funny bones in Aug.

Christian comedian Peter Wolf, known for his profanity-free stand-up act, will be performing at “Comedy Date Night” at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the Trinity Worship Center in Pharr.

There will also be live music and Chik-Fil-A will be passing out some free food.

The event is free and for adults 18 years and older.

Viva la Risa comedy tour to hit Harlingen

Comedy superstar George Lopez hits the road with ¡Viva la Risa! tour this summer.

The comedian will be hosting a comedy show featuring four other comics at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, at the Harlingen Municipal Auditorium.

Johnny Sanchez may be best known for his stint on the sketch comedy series MADtv.

Comedian and actress Loni Love will also take the stage. She can often be seen on Chelsea Lately and she has her own comedy special on Comedy Central.

Also performing are funnyman Maz Jobrani and comic Michelle Buteau.

Jo Jo Falcon Comedy Show (March 26, McAllen)

Jo Jo Jorge Falcon, the veteran of Mexican standup comedy shows and television, will perform Saturday, March 26, at the McAllen Civic Center Auditorium.Falcon has also released several comedy albums. Comedian Mike DeStefano dies

Comedian Mike DeStefano, who made it to the finalist round of last season’s NBC show “Last Comic Standing,” has died.

The New York comedian was HIV-positive and a rehabilitated drug addict. Much of his material centered on his trials throughout life.

In January, the funnyman came to McAllen as part of the “Last Comic Standing” Live tour, along with the other four finalists.

Fellow contestant on the reality competition show, Cristela Alonzo, tweeted her reaction to hearing the news of DeStefano’s death.

“No!!!! Mike Destefano?!?! What a talent.. you will be missed. RIP.”

DeStephano reportedly suffered a heart attack Sunday, March 6.

THE FESTIVA INTERVIEW: Felipe Esparza and the Last Comic Standing finalists

Five of the finalists from NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” will perform Saturday, Jan. 29, at the McAllen Convention Center.

The group includes last season’s winner Felipe Esparza, Mike DeStefano, Tommy Johnagin, Roy Wood Jr., and Myq Kaplan. The comedians, who battled for comedic supremacy on the reality show, will unite for an evening of comedy.

If you go to Valley comedy shows, you might already know a bit about Esparza. He’s often mentioned in the act of fellow comedian Gabriel Iglesias, who regularly plays shows in the Valley. Iglesias tells stories about Esparza and does an impression of him.

Gabriel Iglesias’ friend Felipe coming to RGV

If you’ve seen Gabriel Iglesias, the fluffy comedian, you’ve heard about his friend Felipe.

That friend is a real dude. His name is Felipe Esparza, and he just won NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.” Oh, and also, he’s coming to the McAllen Convention Center for a show Saturday,  Jan. 29.
