WILD hosts its annual haunted house Thursday and Friday

Writers in Literary Discussion (WILD) will be hosting its 16th annual haunted house from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, and Friday, Oct. 28, at South Texas College in McAllen.

The Halloween event features optical and aural illusions.

Costume contest held by Speer Memorial Library on Thursday

Dress your little ones up in the most creative, cutest and scariest costumes you can create for a chance to win the Speer Memorial Library‘s seventh annual costume contest.

The contest is open to children through 8th grade. Categories include 1- to 3-year-olds, pre-kinder to kinder, 1st-graders to 3rd-graders and 4th-grade students to 8th-grade students. No grotesque or inappropriate costumes will be allowed.

Register for the contest in the children’s department up until 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27.

South Texas College will host fall fest in Weslaco

South Texas College’s Mid-Valley campus will be hosting a fall festival at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, in Weslaco.

The free event will feature a plethora of party games for children of all ages, including a scavenger hunt, costume contests, carnival games and rides, a rock wall, euro bungee, photo booth and human bowling.

There will also be a book fair with storytellers and free children’s books.

San Juan hosts Halloween Festival on Monday

A haunted house and festival will be featured at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, at the San Juan City Hall. There will also be food, games and a costume contest.

Halloween Night Out Bash planned for Sunday in Penitas

The whole family will be entertained at the Halloween Night Out Bash at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at Penitas Veterans Memorial Park.

There will be games, moon jumps and a costume contest for children. First place winners will receive $25. The Penitas library will be transformed into a haunted house and there will be food and drinks. Be sure to bring some chairs to watch the Dallas Cowboys take on the Philadelphia Eagles.

Harvest Fest 2011 coming to Family Cathedral Church

Whether you dance or sing, the congregation at Family Cathedral Church want to see your talent at the Harvest Fest 2011 at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, in Harlingen.

Butt Wilds’ Halloween party set for Friday in Harlingen

Howl-O-Ween Pet-acular pet costume contest offered by KURV

KURV 710 AM is celebrating Halloween with “Howl-O-Ween Pet-acular,” a pet costume contest. Participants can submit photos of their pets dressed up for the holiday between Tuesday, Oct. 4, and Friday, Oct. 21.

All of the eligible photos will be posted in a gallery on KURV’s website and listeners will be able to vote for their favorite photo. The entry with the most votes by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, will win.

The grand prize winner will receive a $250 pet food certificate from Martin Farm and Ranch and a cruise or land trip for two from Chuck Olsen Tours.

Fall Kiddie Fair to be hosted at Weslaco Museum

Children will get to participate in Halloween activities at the Fall Kiddie Fair at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at The Weslaco Museum.

Decorate a trick-or-treat bag, masks and make popcorn hands, and then meet Rocky from Peter Piper Pizza. There will also be a costume contest. All materials for crafts and snacks will be made available.
