Miniature Tigers, an indie/dream pop band based out of Brooklyn, will return Thursday, Sept. 15, to McAllen for the first time since last year’s Fun Day event.
Did that jog your memory?
Well, if not you have two choices. You can head to YouTube and watch a video of their hit song “Gold Skull,” which was actually shot at Fun Day in McAllen by local videographer Gabriel Elizondo. It’s a great song, and it should give you a decent idea of what to expect at the show.
Still not satisfied? Well then my friend, keep reading. Amid yet another tour in preparation for a new album, Miniature Tigers’ Charlie Brand took time out to answer some questions for us.

Q: What can fans expect from your next album “Mia Pharoah”?
A: I feel like there’s something for everyone on it. People who liked the pop of “Tell it to the Volcano” will be pleased, and fans of the more psychedelic stuff will find something there, too. I describe it as sort of a “Bridge Over Troubled Water” meets Top 40 hip hop/pop.
Q: When is it due out?
A: The record is written and partially recorded. We’re looking to finish it in October after this upcoming tour, with the hopes of releasing it in spring of 2012.
Q: Do you expect a different response from fans than you got for “Fortress”?
A: I never really know what to expect in that regard. I can never tell how people are going to react, which is probably a good thing. If I were aware it might mess up the writing process. I think people were thrown off at the departure we made on “Fortress.” I’m hoping we can throw people through a loop again in almost the opposite way, with pop this time. I think we get off on surprising people or shattering people’s expectations of us.
Q: Collectively, where’s your favorite place to eat on the road?
A: That’s such a difficult question! I feel like we look forward to different sections of the country and what they have to offer. We all come together on Mexican food. However, you can’t find good mexican food everywhere. I look forward to Texas, Arizona and Southern California for that because outside of that, the Mexican food is inauthentic. There was also this place in Houston called Mai’s that was our favorite spot to eat but it burned down. Culinary tragedy.
Q: What would you name Beyoncé and Jay Z’s unborn child?
A: Steve
Q: If you weren’t making music, what would be your top 5 other career choices?
A: If I wasn’t making music, I don’t know that I’m really qualified for anything other than flipping burgers. I’d love to be a film director or a painter though.
Q: Favorite ‘80s song?
A: Right now, “Baby Be Mine” by Michael Jackson or “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper.
Q: Favorite hip hop song?
A: My favorite in the last while was Rick Ross “Aston Martin Music.” It’s so hard to pick just one though.
Q: What movie has the best live music scene?
A: Billy Madison, ‘Billy passed the third grade, oh what a glorious day!’
