Get in the holiday spirit with some improvisation games presented by Thirteen O’Clock Theatre’s Comedy Warz at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Moonbeans in McAllen.
It’s the Battle Toys versus Elves, so choose your team wisely and root them on as they battle it out through wits.

The fair will include several health organizations from the Valley offering screenings, including blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol. Flu shots will also be available, and health and wellness information.
Take a journey to Europe and the middle ages without leaving the Rio Grande Valley. Students at BETA High School will be hosting the annual “Medieval Fair” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the campus in Edinburg.
Dressed in proper attire to tell the stories of those who fought in the Crusades and the Hundred Years’ War, students will help visitors learn what it was like centuries ago.
There will be food, drinks, games and music. Also, plays will be performed based on the Arthurian legend.
The fundraiser is a free event, but guests will need to purchase tickets, which are used for buying concessions.

Gaze at the starry sky with Dr. Phil Plait, “The Bad Astronomer,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the University of Texas-Pan American in Edinburg.
Plait will be speaking about scientific myths and he’ll answer some questions about astronomy. He will have books for sale, and afterward, observe the night sky with the scientist.

A children’s play will be featured at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, and Friday, Nov. 18, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at South Texas College in McAllen.
The comedy “Happy the Cat Hosts Thanksgiving” was written and directed by local actor Tom Fuschetto.
Admission for children is free, but adults will need to pay $2, and seniors 65 years and older will be charged $1.
Local rock band Point Blank will be playing the “Music by the Bay” festival at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at Roloff Park in Laguna Vista.
The family-friendly free event includes more than a stage of rock music for those who venture out to the park. There will be moon jumps for children and vendors selling food and drinks.

If you missed the premiere of local horror film “Susto” last month, here’s a chance to catch the flick for free at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at Cine El Rey in McAllen.
The film, produced and directed by local Quint Rogers, follows the story of a group of famous paranormal investigators that haven’t been entirely honest about some of their haunted findings. When they take a case to look into the disturbances at a genuinely haunted hotel, they get more than they bargained for.

Comedian Nate Bargatze will be performing a series of free shows Wednesday, Nov. 2, and Thursday, Nov. 3, at South Texas College campuses in McAllen and Weslaco.
Bargatze has performed on the Country Music Television cable channel’s comedy show a few times, made the troops in Iraq laugh, entertained on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” and hosted his own “Comedy Central Presents” special.
The Student Life department of STC will be sponsoring several shows which will be open and free to the public.
Bargatze will perform at STC’s Technology Campus West Building Atrium at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, and at 7 p.m. at STC’s Mid-Valley Campus Building G Lecture Hall in Weslaco.
He will also perform at 12 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at STC’s Starr County Campus Building E Auditorium and finally at 7 p.m. that evening at the college’s Pecan Campus Cafeteria.

Eating well is easy once you learn healthy cooking, and the University of Texas-Pan American wants to help you with a free class.
The instructors at the Wellness and Recreational Sports Complex will be teaching the public how to make a variety of tasty and healthy foods at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, in Edinburg.
Learn how to make dips and desserts, such as roasted garlic and red pepper hummus and banana mousse.
The class is free and open to the public, and is on a first-come-first-serve basis.
