Winterfest 2012 to come in January

Abundant Grace Community Church will be hosting their fourth annual Winterfest from Thursday, Jan. 19 through Sunday, Jan. 22, in Edinburg. 

This four-day extravaganza will be filled with loads of fun for the entire family with everything from carnival rides to arts and crafts, live shows and food vendors.

Smokin’ Aces to host female Iron Maiden tribute band

Mission’s Smokin’ Aces will host Iron Maidens, the world’s only all girl Iron Maiden tribute band, at 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.

Local rockers Black Tora will open the show, which costs $15 for all ages.

Medieval Fair will be held Tuesday at BETA High

Take a journey to Europe and the middle ages without leaving the Rio Grande Valley. Students at BETA High School will be hosting the annual “Medieval Fair” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22, at the campus in Edinburg.

Dressed in proper attire to tell the stories of those who fought in the Crusades and the Hundred Years’ War, students will help visitors learn what it was like centuries ago.

There will be food, drinks, games and music. Also, plays will be performed based on the Arthurian legend.

The fundraiser is a free event, but guests will need to purchase tickets, which are used for buying concessions.

Dignan, Young Maths to play all ages show tonight

Popular McAllen-based indie bands The Young Maths and Dignan will play an all ages show tonight at Sofie’s SS Saloon.

There will be free fajita tacos, a photo booth, art displays and more. The show is also the first chance for fans to buy a copy of Dignan’s new “Tour EP.”

The show starts at $7 and admission costs $7.

Splash moves to November at SPI

The bi-annual Splash weekend which caters to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community moves from the typical October weekend to Friday, Nov. 4, and Saturday, Nov. 5, at South Padre Island.

Kick off the weekend with “Extravaganza” featuring performances by Katelynn York, Toni Raven, Birdie B and music by DJ Hugo on Friday, Nov. 4, at Tequila Sunset.

The “Splash Pool Bash” starts at noon and includes full service bars, food and music by DJ Mandi and Miami on Saturday, Nov. 5, at La Copa Inn.

Then there’s the eighth annual “White Party” on Saturday, Nov. 5, at Louie’s Backyard. There will be performances by Katelynn York, Ariana Evans and Asa Brooks, music by DJ Master Steve and a live performance by Daniel Joseph Baker.

Local musician releases second album

Country singer-songwriter EJ Colbath will mark the release of his second album “Give Me Another One” with a party at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Yoko’s Sushi Bar in McAllen.

You can purchase the CD at the release party, or you can call Colbath to order one.

The guitarist and crooner put out his first album two years ago, titled “All the Days of My Life.”
